In October, I went on a quick getaway for a site tour at the Sandals property in Negril, Jamaica. My husband was also able to come along on this trip, which was fantastic!
Air travel these days is quite different, but once you get used to the new normal, it is quite simple! This was our second time flying amidst Covid and, as the first time, we were pleasantly surprised. We have flown both Delta and Southwest recently and both airlines have done a nice job enforcing masks, providing simple, safe snacks and following new cleanliness protocols. We both felt very safe and wouldn’t hesitate to fly again soon.
International travel is changing rapidly right now, so be sure to check with your travel agent or the country’s website for any travel restrictions or requirements. When we traveled, we were required to provide a negative Covid test, as well as, approved travel authorization forms from Jamaica’s Ministry of Health. With both of these documents in hand, we were moved through the customs process fairly smoothly.
Sandals provides transportation as part of their all-inclusive package. After a quick temperature check and hand sanitation, we were on our way to the Sandals Negril resort. At this time, masks are required for Sandals staff everywhere on property. However, masks are only required by guests when indoors. Sandals Negril is a perfect location for the current Covid climate. Most of the dining is outdoors, as well as, entertainment, and room corridors.
The beach at Sandals Negril is fantastic and is situated along the famous 7 Mile Beach. Beach loungers are spread out and properly social distanced, making enjoying the beautiful outdoors super easy and safe. There are many great waters sports included with your stay. We tried most of them; water skiing, tubing, Hobie Cats, stand up paddle boards, snorkeling and more! My husband really enjoyed the snorkeling and I had a blast water skiing.
The pools are super fun and have a great vibe. Lively music is always playing and it is a great place to spend the day. The poolside chairs here are spaced out, so you can enjoy the fun atmosphere safely.
Let’s talk food shall we? We tried almost every dining location on property and enjoyed them all. There are quick service restaurant options with menu options like flatbreads, burgers and sandwiches. Sit down dining includes several options including: seafood, Japanese, Italian, American and Jamaican inspired. Last, but not least, room service is included in Club Level and above rooms. This is fantastic for eating a leisure breakfast on your private balcony or a snack after enjoying the late night entertainment. While we don’t consider ourselves “foodies,” we did find the food to be lovely and would recommend it. Covid safety measures are in place at all dining locations. This includes, hand sanitizer upon entry to the restaurants, social distancing, digital menus and masked staff members.
The drinks at the Sandals resorts are always fun, delicious and included! We tried as many different options as we could and the bartenders and wait staff never disappointed. Guests did a good job spacing out from each other and most took their drinks to go and enjoyed them poolside or on the beach.
I wouldn’t hesitate to return to Jamaica or visit another Caribbean Island soon. We were both very impressed with the way safety protocols were handled and had a lovely visit.
